The Man with the Hat…

While Algy was enjoying the wonderful “Selfie Sunday” event on PWS @photosworthseeing​ yesterday, he greatly admired the handsome self-portrait of the amazingly cool Mr. Wayland William Whitney of New York State, known to his friends – of which Algy is sure he indeed has many – as Bud… @bwwhitney​

Algy rather cheekily added a comment to that post, to the effect that perhaps he too could be as cool as Mr. Whitney, if only he had a hat like his.

Imagine Algy’s astonishment, therefore, when he woke up in the wild west Highlands of Scotland this morning to find that the incredible Mr. Whitney had taken the trouble not only to lend him his wonderful hat, but to send it all the way across the Atlantic Ocean in the night and actually place it on his head, with a very kind note attached to say that Algy himself is the definition of cool!

Algy has to confess that until he received this hat he really didn’t feel very cool at all… but there can be no further doubt that the astonishing Mr. Whitney is himself the epitome of cool – and also of kind generosity. How many of even your very best friends would take the trouble to send you their own super-cool hat across the mighty ocean in the night, and place it carefully on your head in just the right position?

Algy would like to assure “Bud” that he has made a lifelong fluffy friend, and he will treasure this very fine hat for as long as he is permitted to wear it 😀

And of course he also sends him lots of his very fluffiest hugs… providing, of course, that such a cool gentleman is willing to accept such things xo

Finding himself in an unusually odd environment for a fluffy bird, Algy selected a handy if rather uncomfortable perch, and opening his beak as widely as he could, he started to sing an ENORMOUS “THANK YOU!” song to all his incredible Tumblr friends who helped to make his 6th birthday so enjoyable yesterday – especially those who submitted wonderful images for his Amazing Tumblr Birthday Party on his sideblog @lovefromalgy, but also the many friends who watched and enjoyed the party, who made kind comments on his own and other people’s posts, and who sent him personal messages, good wishes and congratulations.

Algy was delighted to receive many contributions from brand new friends, who he hopes to know better very soon. But of course he was also thrilled and touched by the fantastic contributions from many of his long-standing friends, some of whom he has know for almost as long as he has been on Tumblr. So he sings at the top of his voice:

The great day has arrived! It is Algy’s 5th Tumblr Birthday.

Algy’s surprisingly fluffy 5th birthday party will start at midday, over on his sideblog @lovefromalgy

It is YOU, Algy’s wonderful Tumblr friends and followers, who have made these five years of Algy’s adventures possible, and YOU who have kept Algy going through good times and bad. Thank you all so very much!

A HUGE THANK YOU to all the thousands of almost-invisible followers who Algy does not really know but who see his posts and leave notes from time to time…

And a VERY SPECIAL HUGE THANK YOU to those hundreds of amazing friends and followers who Algy has come to know and love over the past five years – who frequently “like” Algy’s posts, leave kind comments, and send Algy messages.

To celebrate, Algy is also running a small retrospective of his 5 years of amazing adventures, on his main blog @adventuresofalgy. This was originally planned for just two days, but Algy has now decided to spread it over 5 days – one day for each year 🙂

During the week, the post bird brought Algy a most exciting parcel wrapped up in brown paper, which had flown to him all the way from Regensburg in Germany. He opened it eagerly, and found that it contained a beautiful German Advent calendar card and a packet of his favourite lebkuchen – not to mention some very pretty Christmas paper napkins 🙂

In the short, dark days of December, Algy will have a happy time munching his lebkuchen and opening the tiny windows in his calendar, so he sends his fluffiest thanks and lots of fluffy hugs to his very kind friends in Regensburg. He is extremely grateful for such kindness, and thinks that he must surely be the only fluffy bird on Tumblr to receive such gifts! Thank you so much xoxo

Today the Tumblr gods worked some of their amazing magic, and Algy suddenly found that he had a large number of new followers from all around the world. He was utterly astonished and delighted, and so naturally he immediately had to do a special Happy Dance 🙂

Algy wishes all you lovely new followers a very warm and fluffy welcome, and he hopes that you will enjoy his adventures in the West Highlands of Scotland.

Algy’s New Year Reblogging Resolution

Algy is resolved to reblog more of the wonderful images created by his Tumblr friends in the coming year, here on his sideblog lovefromalgy.

So, starting tomorrow 6th January, Algy will try to reblog two or three posts he especially likes each day – and submissions are also welcome (in any media) if they are your own original work and feature birds, animals, fluffiness, or the beauty of Nature:)

A few days ago, the post bird brought Algy an exciting envelope from Germany. He was astonished! But he was even more surprised when he opened it and found that it contained a beautiful, traditional Advent Calendar card! He was thrilled to see that it had tiny windows to open every day from 1st December until Christmas Eve, and a picture of the Christkind and little angels preparing presents for all the children at Christmas. Algy has never had anything like this before, and he thanks his wonderful German friends @hedminreg and @bk-fundstuecke very much indeed for thinking of sending him something so lovely to brighten up these dark December days.
