Sitting by the burn, Algy found that the noise of the wind whooshing across the moorland disturbed the soothing trickling sounds of the water, and ruffled his mind as well as his feathers.

The West Highland summer weather had reverted to a more normal pattern and Algy was feeling a wee bit disgruntled, not to mention damp and windswept. But it was always pleasant to sit by the burn, whatever the weather, and listen to the gentle trickling sounds it made as it passed by.

Algy is fascinated by all kinds of water, so he spent a happy hour or two watching this clear stream trickling across the beach, although he couldn’t understand where it was coming from, as it seemed to appear out of nowhere.
Algy settled himself on a bed of last season’s wild iris leaves, beside the burn which runs round the sand dunes to the beach, but he found it hard to concentrate on his reading. The constant trickling sounds of the burn were so soothing (audio post below) …
