The Man with the Hat…

While Algy was enjoying the wonderful “Selfie Sunday” event on PWS @photosworthseeing yesterday, he greatly admired the handsome self-portrait of the amazingly cool Mr. Wayland William Whitney of New York State, known to his friends – of which Algy is sure he indeed has many – as Bud… @bwwhitney

Algy rather cheekily added a comment to that post, to the effect that perhaps he too could be as cool as Mr. Whitney, if only he had a hat like his.

Imagine Algy’s astonishment, therefore, when he woke up in the wild west Highlands of Scotland this morning to find that the incredible Mr. Whitney had taken the trouble not only to lend him his wonderful hat, but to send it all the way across the Atlantic Ocean in the night and actually place it on his head, with a very kind note attached to say that Algy himself is the definition of cool!

Algy has to confess that until he received this hat he really didn’t feel very cool at all… but there can be no further doubt that the astonishing Mr. Whitney is himself the epitome of cool – and also of kind generosity. How many of even your very best friends would take the trouble to send you their own super-cool hat across the mighty ocean in the night, and place it carefully on your head in just the right position?

Algy would like to assure “Bud” that he has made a lifelong fluffy friend, and he will treasure this very fine hat for as long as he is permitted to wear it 😀

And of course he also sends him lots of his very fluffiest hugs… providing, of course, that such a cool gentleman is willing to accept such things xo

@bwwhitney with the very fluffiest of thanks for making Algy’s day so special!

Submission Selfie Sunday

He’s back… 😀

Sadly, Algy was absent for the last two PWS Selfie Sundays, but now he has emerged from the darkness, and sends all his friends at PWS lots of his fluffiest “Seflie Sunday” hugs xo

@adventuresofalgy

PAFBWS – Photo(grapher and Fluffy Bird)s Worth Seeing

Thank you so much, my dear friends @photosworthseeing xo

And thank you too for all your hard work in presenting another wonderful “Selfie Sunday” on Tumblr – Algy has discovered many interesting new photographers through your efforts today 😀

photosworthseeing:

Dear friends,

A wee bird told Algy that you were interested in photos on the theme “Encounter”, so he would like to share with you this photographic record of a certain real-life encounter which he experienced in person this week.

With fluffy hugs from the wild west Highlands of Scotland, from Algy… and friends 🙂

Thank you for this beautiful “Encounters” photos. We love it!

PWS – Photos Worth Seeing

Shortly after this photo was taken, the black coo cautiously approached Algy, one step at a time, evidently unsure what this strange creature might be. Eventually the coo came close enough to reach out and discover whether a fluffy bird was something a hielan’ coo could eat… Of course Algy knew that coos do not eat birds, but nevertheless he thought it prudent to consider the “encounter” at an end at that point, and fly away to a safer spot where he could not be munched by a large, hairy animal 🙂

Algy is looking forward to many more years of PWS :)))

Algy managed to rescue three slightly battered gladioli from the storms in time for your birthday, although they are a wee bit damaged by the wind and the rain. He hopes you like them.

Lots of extra fluffy hugs to you all, with love from Algy @adventuresofalgy xoxoxo

And the fluffiest hugs to the probably most famous bird on Tumblr. Thank you and Jenny @jennychapmanartwork for making our Tumblr experience wonderful and magical! And thank you for your most wonderful words and this beautiful submission!

Have a lovely weekend, everyone xoxo

Blog recommendation of the week – interview

1. Tell us something about yourself for a start:

For a start, I’m a unique fluffy bird
There is no other fluffy bird quite like me anywhere in the real or
virtual world, so far as I know. I live on the wild west coast of the
Scottish Highlands, where I was cast ashore after a long ocean voyage on
a raft, and I have many adventures.

2. Tell us something about your wonderful assistant Jenny and how you met?

One
day, when I was perching on a rock in the sea, close to my cliff-side
nest, two human creatures came walking along. They perched on another
rock nearby, and I noticed that the female human was taking lots and
lots – and lots! – of photographs. When I was sure that they were
harmless, I flew over to talk to them, and that is how I met Jenny and
her husband.

Jenny told me that she was a multimedia artist and a
writer, and she had always loved fluffy birds and animals. I learned
that she had spent years studying animation and illustration at art
school, and she had also been taking photographs since she was first
given a Kodak Instamatic as a little girl. When I heard that the very
first photos she ever took (as a chlld) were of a fluffy white baby
goat, and a beautiful white peacock, I knew at once that she was the
right person to photograph me and my adventures. The rest is history

Since
that day, Jenny and I have had many exciting adventures together in the
rugged landscape of the West Highlands of Scotland. She started posting
photos and GIFs of my adventures on Tumblr in March 2012, and in 2015
she began to produce illustrated stories from my adventures in
children’s books too.

3. You’re a really brave (and fluffy) bird, what was your biggest adventure so far?

In
some ways my bravest and fluffiest adventure is the one that is being
recorded in my second book “The Tree with a Golden Heart”, due to be
published soon. This new adventure needed more courage than the others,
and was undertaken to help a sick friend. In other ways my biggest
adventure was one that happened by accident – my dangerous journey
around the world on a raft, and arrival in the Scottish Highlands,
washed up half-drowned on the beach. That adventure is important to me,
because it reminds me of all the little refugee children who are making
dangerous journeys to new lands by sea, and I hope very much that they
don’t get washed up on the beach too, but arrive safely in new homes and
make new friends.

4. You’re writing your second book, what is the biggest challenge about this?

The
biggest challenge about this is sifting through all those million or so
words in the English language, to choose only the ones that will fit
together nicely, and then putting those ones in the right order and the
right place to tell the story. I have heard that many people want to be
writers, but watching my assistant struggle day after day with that
enormous tangle of words, I often wonder why!

5. And now a personal question, but I think many people want to know that too: How can Algy always be so fluffy?

This
is a question which many people ask, and I don’t really know the
answer. But the West Highlands of Scotland is an exceedingly wet
environment, where it rains most days of the year, and it is also a
very, very windy place. So I guess it may be the result of frequent
washing with soft rainwater and blow-drying!

Thank you so much
for featuring my adventures on PWS. This is so exciting, and I can’t
tell you how much I appreciate it! I’m sending you, your PWS colleagues,
and all the wonderful people on Tumblr who follow my adventures, lots
and lots of surprisingly fluffy hugs.

Thank you, Algy for the great interview

PWS – Stephi

Algy quite often surprises other folk, but this time it was his turn to be surprised – in fact he was absolutely astonished when Stephi wrote to him to say that @adventuresofalgy was going to be featured as the PWS @photosworthseeing recommended blog of the week.

Algy doubts whether any fluffy bird has been honoured in this way before, and he feels terrifically excited and truly honoured. He thanks all the wonderful members of the PWS team very much indeed!

The PWS interview mentions Algy’s books. Please visit Algy’s own web site for more information about Algy’s unique illustrated chapter books for children, and lots of supporting material and activities for the kids 🙂

HAPPY 2ND BIRTHDAY PWS!

Algy heard that his special friends at PWS were celebrating their 2nd birthday – and he also heard that it was Oktoberfest time 🙂 So he got out the balloons in proper Oktoberfest style to help you celebrate your birthday. Algy thanks you all for your kindness, your wonderful support for his adventures (and Sunday Selfies!), and your Tumblr friendship over the past two years, and sends everyone at PWS lots of very special and exceedingly fluffy hugs. He hopes that PWS will go on for ever, as it’s his favourite photo reblogging site of all time xoxo

http://adventuresofalgy.tumblr.com

Yes, indeed, it’s Oktoberfest and one third of PWS actually (and obvioulsy) was there already. Thank you so very much for your more than lovely words and this beautiful submission! Lots of fluffy hugs!

PWS – Photos Worth Seeing

Algy is so happy to see that photosworthseeing are getting so many wonderful contributions and comments on this occasion of their 2nd birthday. He was glad that he was able to join in the fun 🙂

In the first half of the summer, the normally drab sand dunes of the West Highlands and Western Isles are full of wonderful surprises 🙂 Algy went exploring, and discovered an amazing patchwork of colour among the spiky grasses. He was interested to see that in this exceptionally dismal and very wet year, in which the sun has rarely deigned to put in any kind of an appearance, there were even more flowers than usual!

This unedited photo is a tribute to the PWS photosworthseeing “no edit Friday”. Algy sends all his friends at PWS a big fluffy hug and a huge wingful of wild thyme xoxo

This post is also dedicated to Algy’s friend mdeanstrauss who may find this and Algy’s next post of interest 🙂

Dear friends at PWS, I found an unusually beautiful setting for my special PWS Sunday Selfie this month, although it was sadly lacking in camouflage potential…

I hope you enjoy it 🙂 Thank you so much for making the Selfie Sunday possible. Sending you all lots of very fluffy hugs, as always xoxoxo

Thank you for your fluffy selfie submission! We love it!

PWS – Photo(grapher)s And Fluffy Birds Worth Seeing

Algy sends his fluffiest thanks to all his good friends at PWS for making the PWS Selfie Sunday such an enjoyable event xoxo

This “no edit Friday” image (related to the sequence which will follow later) is dedicated to Algy’s good friends at PWS photosworthseeing. Algy had just learned that PWS were starting a new blog for fine art nudes, and that from now on all photographs of unclothed persons would be displayed on the new blog, and not on the main PWS blog.

Algy was very anxious to be proper, and to avoid giving offence. So – just in case PWS decided to reblog his image – he carefully wrapped himself in a shawl for this photo, and hoped that they would excuse the bare legs…

Of course, Algy had to admit that the shawl did also come in very handy for keeping out the cold, and he wondered whether that was why humans were so often seen with clothes on :)))

Algy sends lots of very proper fluffy hugs to all his friends at photosworthseeing PWS xoxoxo
