Christmas Reading…

Algy-reading-Midwinter-Star-to-teddy-for-011217.jpg

It was the first day of December, and the hours of daylight had grown very short indeed. Each new day dawned more slowly and reluctantly than the previous one now, but as soon as there was sufficient light Algy found himself a comfortable perch in a pine tree and settled down to read his very own Christmas-time story The Magical Midwinter Star to his little black teddy. The tiny bear was thrilled to hear the tale of Algy’s adventures through the harsh midwinter landscape of the West Highlands of Scotland, and he wondered whether Algy would indeed succeed in restoring the ancient tradition of a great midwinter celebration for all the creatures of the area, to bright light and joy back to the dismal depths of the dark and gloomy Scottish winter…

This third story in the series Tales from the Adventures of Algy makes perfect reading for the weeks leading up to Christmas – for children aged 7 to 10 and adults still young at heart. You can buy copies of The Magical Midwinter Star signed by Algy himself, direct from Algy’s own web shop, and add personal dedications in your own words. With FREE UK DELIVERY from now until Hogmanay.

Visit Algy’s own online bookshop to buy The Magical Midwinter Star and Algy’s other books – unique gifts and stocking fillers from the wild West Highlands of Scotland 🙂

FREE KINDLE EBOOK DOWNLOAD ALL DAY SUNDAY 18TH DECEMBER

Algy is delighted to announce that the Kindle ebook version of his new book, The Magical Midwinter Star, has just been published and will be FREE to download all day tomorrow, Sunday 18th December – just in time for you to check it out to see whether you want to include a printed copy of the book in someone’s Christmas stocking 🙂 The offer applies to all Amazon sites around the world.

Full details about buying the paperback and hardback editions are available in Algy’s previous post, and friends in the UK are reminded that if they buy from Algy’s own web shop they will get FREE DELIVERY by 1st class post to UK addresses. This applies to ALL Algy’s books purchased before Christmas, not just the new one.

Because the Kindle book is brand new, Amazon have not yet linked it to the print versions, so please go to your local Amazon site on Sunday and search for The Magical Midwinter Star. Algy will post some direct links tomorrow.

As this story is about a midwinter celebration and is suitable for all winter holidays, Algy wants to share it with you over the holiday season. So the Kindle ebook will also be FREE to download over the Christmas and New Year weekends – on Saturday and Sunday 24th and 25th December, and on Saturday 31st December and Sunday 1st January 🙂

Signed copies of all Algy’s books, complete with personal dedications in your own words, are available from Algy’s own web shop.

Algy had had quite enough of the outside world for the time being, and although the wind had died down for a wee while, there was nasty, cold sleet falling non-stop out of the dismally grey sky. So – as electriticy supplies had been restored to the local area – Algy asked his assistant if he could please spend the day in her cosy, warm house, and check the proof of the new colour paperback version of his latest book The Tree with a Golden Heart.

Some of Algy’s friends have received a complimentary greyscale copy of this paperback from the first test print run – that is, a paperback with small, black and white images at the head of each chapter. If you are one of those friends, and would like a copy with large colour pictures at the head of each chapter, please be sure to let Algy know! He will be very happy to send you one 🙂

All copies of the paperback edition of The Tree with a Golden Heart on sale at Amazon and other bookshops should be in colour.

You can preview the first chapter of the book on Algy’s own web site at http://adventuresofalgy.com/books/the-tree-with-a-golden-heart, where you can also buy a signed copy direct from Algy 🙂

Colour Reissue of “The Tree with a Golden Heart” paperback

The first short print run of Algy’s new book “The Tree with a Golden Heart” was published with small greyscale illustrations. After much thought, Algy has decided that this really won’t do, and the paperback is therefore being reissued in colour, to match the first book “A Surprisingly Fluffy Bird”.

The colour version is not yet available to buy – Algy will let you know when it is ready 🙂  If you buy from a company like Amazon at present, you will still receive the greyscale version. The price will rise by £1 (GBP) when the book goes into colour.

If you have bought or received a greyscale copy and would prefer colour, please send Algy a message and he will see what he can do 🙂

If you have received a review copy in greyscale, please note that the illustrations will be in colour in all editions as soon as the reissue is printed and the greyscale version will no longer be available to buy.

Algy does still have some copies of the greyscale version for anyone who would like one – just send him a message. In the future this version will be a collector’s item, as fewer than 70 copies have been printed and distributed!

LOOK WHAT ALGY’S GOT!

The long wait is over… Algy’s first book A Surprisingly Fluffy Bird will be officially published on Tuesday 7th July, and is already available to order from Amazon. You will be able to order it from any bookseller from 7th July 2015.

Here’s the book at amazon.com, at amazon.de, at amazon.fr, at amazon.jp and at amazon.co.uk.

The Book Depository offers free international shipping worldwide, but at present their prices are too high – please wait until after 7th July, when they should adjust to the correct price.

Algy has published two editions – a deluxe hardback edition with a cloth cover and dustjacket, and a cheap paperback edition. The hardback edition is printed on different presses from the paperback, and the quality of both illustrations and text is higher in the hardback, but of course it’s more expensive. The book has 120 pages (10 chapters), with a half-page colour illustration at the start of each chapter.

A Kindle e-book version will also be available very soon.

Recommended Retail Prices are:
Hardback £13.99 in the UK, €17.99 in Europe, $21.99 in the USA and $22.99 in Canada.
Paperback: £5.99 in the UK, €8.99 in Europe, $8.99 in the USA, $9.99 in Canada and $11.99 in Australia.

Prices at booksellers will vary, and readers in countries not listed above will probably find it cheapest to buy either from Amazon or from The Book Depository. Bookstores will be able to order the book through their usual channels.

A Surprisingly Fluffy Bird is the first book in the series Tales from the Adventures of Algy, and further books will follow. Algy is hoping to publish his second book in time for Christmas 🙂

Although listed as a children’s book, Algy is hoping that many of his
followers of all ages will enjoy it 🙂 If you are buying for children,
Algy advises that the minimum reading age for his book is around 7-8,
depending on the child, although of course it can be read aloud to younger children.

Algy is preparing an online dictionary of the
trickier words in the book to help young readers and readers whose first
language is not English. More news about this shortly.

Algy will show you more of his book and make further exciting announcements very soon 🙂

If you are one of the very kind people who pre-ordered a signed copy of the book, Algy is in the process of contacting you to confirm your address and any dates that you may be away. The signed copies will be posted out during the week commencing 13th July, unless you tell Algy to wait.

Algy is sorry it took so long to get here, but now that it is available at last, he hopes very much that you will enjoy it!

Any questions? Just ask 🙂
