Perpetual Motion

Adventures-of-Algy-110817.gif

Most of the time it rained. Such is life in the wild West Highlands of Scotland. But on the few summer days that it didn’t rain, Algy ensured that he made the most of the finer weather, and the best way to do that, in his opinion, was to perch on a handy rock beside the sea and watch the perpetual motion of the waves, forever washing back and forth, without a care in the world.

Algy hopes that you will all be able to take some time to relax this weekend, and spend a few happy hours just watching the waves, or the sky, or the wind in the trees 🙂

Sea Symphony in Silver…

Adventures-of-Algy-030817.jpg

Summer does not last long in the wild West Highlands of Scotland – if indeed it arrives at all – and as July gave way to August there was a distinct and melancholy change in the air, as though autumn were here already. Waves of heavy rain swept in across the Atlantic on strong, cool winds, and when the sun occasionally emerged, in between the showers, the world appeared in the muted, silvery colours typical of the equinox, instead of the strong hues of summer. However, Algy knew that in fact it was only early August, and as he watched the diamonds sparkling on the water and the wet sand, he hoped that there might still be a chance of some warm sunshine before the long Highland winter began in earnest…

Algy reclined on a sunny rock beneath his cliff-side nest and listened to the sounds of the sea, seething and swirling all around him. He could think of no better way to spend a bright summer’s afternoon, and he hoped that the tide would not rise too soon…

Algy sends you all lots of fluffy seaside hugs, and this picture postcard from his stay-at-home vacation on the wild west coast of Scotland. He hopes you are enjoying a happy and peaceful Sunday xoxo

Algy’s Staycation…

Adventures-of-Algy-210717.jpg

It was summer holiday time in the wild West Highlands of Scotland, and while his assistants continued to work, Algy had been enjoying that most fashionable of all types of holiday – a “staycation”…

Of course, it is well known that those who take their holidays on the west coast of Scotland must expect uncertain weather, and this year had been no exception to that rule. But between the cold, grey, wet and misty days there had been some days of glorious sunshine, and on these Algy delighted in reclining on a rock in his own personal garden by the sea, watching the other holidaymakers making merry on the beach or messing about in boats…

If you are enjoying your summer holidays just now – whether at home or away – Algy hopes that you are having a wonderful time 🙂

Diamonds on the Sea…

Adventures-of-Algy-090717.jpg

The sun had been playing hard to get, and although it was July, most days continued to be cold, dark, dismal, and often very wet. But when the sun did deign to put in an appearance, the world was transformed… and Algy was delighted to see the diamonds return to the surface of the sea once more…

Algy wishes you all a very happy week ahead, sparkling with free diamonds 🙂

Eventually, the mist lifted…

Adventures-of-Algy-200617

Eventually the wind swung round to the north and the mist lifted, at least until the wind changed again… Algy was so relieved to see some light and colour in the world once more that he flew straight down to the sea and found himself a perch on a rock where the tide was washing in. The world looked entirely different on a fine day, and Algy couldn’t help wishing that it would be fine just a wee bit more often… But there was little he could do to influence the weather, so he decided to make the most of the sunshine while it lasted, even though the wind was still decidedly cool.

The Beautiful Deep Blue Sea

Adventures-of-Algy-020617.jpg

Algy flew back down the lighthouse keepers’ path to the rocks where wee boats used to moor in days gone by… Stretching himself out on the warm stone in the sunshine, he surveyed the wide expanse of beautiful deep blue sea. This was perhaps his favourite spot of all, and Algy spent many happy hours here, just watching the tide come and go, and listening to the neverending sounds of the sea on the rocks. He was fascinated by the line of creel floats that seemed to lead out to the islands, and idly wondered whether he should follow them out across the ocean to the mysterious lands beyond…

Incoming Tide

Adventures-of-Algy-310517.gif

Algy hopped over to the rocks, where the incoming tide was surging and gurgling through a narrow channel in a most delightful way. For a short while he perched on a rocky seat in the sunshine, just watching the water rushing backwards and forwards, although he knew that he would not be able to stay there for long…

On the Rocks

Adventures-of-Algy-140517.jpg

Algy followed the lighthouse keepers’ path down to the barnacled rocks at the edge of the sea, and found himself a prickly perch among the rock pools. The tide was coming in, and the water surged all around his feet with much enthusiasm. It was great fun to watch, and he wondered how long it would be before he got splashed…

Algy hopes that you have all been having fun and enjoying yourselves this weekend 🙂

Algy’s Primrose Path :)

Adventures-of-Algy-090517.jpg

Algy followed the lighthouse keepers’ path which led down to the rocks, and was surprised to see many clumps of primroses growing on the steep banks that rose up towards the lighthouse itself. It was a very pleasant place to perch in safety and listen to the sea, which – even on a calm day – swirled around noisily in constant motion, some distance beneath the old wall.
