Happy Birthday Algy!

Today, 13th March,  is Algy’s birthday, the 7th anniversary of Algy’s very first adventure on Tumblr, and although he has been away for a while, Algy is still thinking of all his friends around the world and hopes that you are all very well and happy, and have not entirely forgotten him 🙂

On the morning of Algy’s birthday, the west Highlands of Scotland had been battered yet again by wild Atlantic storms, so Algy’s friends had no difficulty in collecting up a nice wee posy of some of the many daffodils that had been broken and laid low by the fierce winds, which they presented to him with their fluffiest birthday wishes, singing:

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?

Thank You All!

Finding himself in an unusually odd environment for a fluffy bird, Algy selected a handy if rather uncomfortable perch, and opening his beak as widely as he could, he started to sing an ENORMOUS “THANK YOU!” song to all his incredible Tumblr friends who helped to make his 6th birthday so enjoyable yesterday – especially those who submitted wonderful images for his Amazing Tumblr Birthday Party on his sideblog @lovefromalgy, but also the many friends who watched and enjoyed the party, who made kind comments on his own and other people’s posts, and who sent him personal messages, good wishes and congratulations.

Algy was delighted to receive many contributions from brand new friends, who he hopes to know better very soon. But of course he was also thrilled and touched by the fantastic contributions from many of his long-standing friends, some of whom he has know for almost as long as he has been on Tumblr. So he sings at the top of his voice:

And he hopes that you can hear him all around the world…

Algy is now looking forward eagerly to his 7th year of adventures, and if you are wondering what he is doing in such a peculiar environment, he suggests that you follow his forthcoming adventure, which is just about to commence… 😀

Algy received several new toys for his birthday, but his favourite was the balloon helicopter 🙂

The morning of Algy’s birthday was rather dull and damp, and the Scotch mist was hovering over the hills, threatening to make the world a great deal damper, but Algy didn’t care. It was his birthday, and time to celebrate…

As all his friends know, Algy is a mature and discerning fluffy bird who delights in reading poetry, but he also loves toys, so he was thrilled to find many colourful and silly things to play with among his birthday gifts 🙂

On this day, six years ago, Algy’s adventures began… here on Tumblr @adventuresofalgy

As you can see, Algy was a much younger bird in those days. Like most birds, Algy’s appearance was somewhat different when he first hatched out of the egg, but in due course he acquired his adult plumage 🙂

Even as a very young chick, however, Algy loved poetry, and he loved the sea, which washes up on the beach beside his home in the wild west Highlands of Scotland. So his very first post for The Adventures of Algy featured a photo of him perching on a rock in the surf close to his home, reciting Carl Sandburg’s poem Sea-Wash.

Algy has been sharing his adventures on Tumblr for six years, and although they are now published on other platforms too, Tumblr is his first love and his true home, and the place where he finds the majority of his friends. Over time, Algy has acquired many thousands of friends, from all around the world, and it has been his great pleasure to get to know you, to share this Tumblr world with you, and to see all your wonderful images and your unique points of view.

Algy hopes that this happy situation will continue for a very long time to come 🙂

He sends his fluffiest thanks and hugs to you all – for your friendship, your “likes” and comments and reblogs, your enthusiasm, and for brightening his life with your own wonderful images and thoughts. He loves you all, and so now…

The afternoon light was fading fast and it was beginning to get dark, so Algy decided it was high time for refreshments… A crowd of furry and fluffy friends gathered round to watch Algy’s birthday candles burn down, eagerly waiting for the homemade chocolate brownies (with cherries!) and banana splits to be served 🙂
